Shops & Services

How goods and services are accessed

A simple idea

In Balanced Civilization, goods and services are accessed through Contribution Units.

Instead of traditional buying and selling, the system is based on access, availability, and balance.

How it works

  • shops and services operate as part of the system

  • prices are expressed in Contribution Units (CU)

  • people use their units to access what they need

  • availability is guided by production and demand

  • the system aims to maintain balance rather than maximize profit

Example

A person visits a grocery store.

They select the items they need and use Contribution Units to access them.

The system records the transaction, and the flow of goods and resources is updated accordingly.

Types of services

The system includes:

  • essential services (food, healthcare, housing)

  • everyday services (transport, shops, maintenance)

  • personal services (haircuts, local services, individual work)

Both public and individual service providers can operate within the system.

State and individual roles

Some services are organized at a system level.

Others are provided by individuals.

Individual providers are treated as contributors within the system:

  • they offer services

  • they receive Contribution Units in return

Not profit-driven

Shops and services are not primarily driven by profit.

Their role is to:

  • provide access

  • maintain availability

  • support system-wide balance

Connection to the system

Shops and services are directly connected to:

  • the Contribution System (how people earn units)

  • the Economy & Flow (how balance is maintained)

Changes in availability or demand are reflected across the system.

Why this matters

This approach shifts focus from:

  • ownership → access

  • profit → balance

  • competition → functionality

It allows resources to be used more efficiently while ensuring that people can meet their needs.

An evolving system

The structure of shops and services is not fixed.

It can evolve based on:

  • local needs

  • technological development

  • improved understanding
